Till Gerhard

Walden (2004)

I definitely had a crush on Till Gerhard’s work when I saw it first at Art Cologne.  Although the spiritual seraphic aspects are not my cup of tea, still there was something that attracted me.

Maybe because it reminded me of Peter Doig. Maybe because Till Gerhard depicts the subculture I’m familiar with whilst endowing his painting with a certain surreal  glow. Or maybe because it reflects this tension between man and nature, between abstract and representation or between heavy brushstrokes and light drips of colours.
